Travel Advice
A word of advice based on current circumstances: Visas and other travel documents are subject to strict controls - especially when entering countries such as the USA and the UK. Please note that there are different visa categories depending
on the purpose of your stay: An internship may require a different visa than a study visit! It is important to know that a visa is not a guarantee of entry – the final decision is always made by border officials.
Students abroad are ambassadors of the Angewandte! Your behavior abroad reflects on all members of our university – please, help us to maintain good relations with our partner institutions and inform yourself in advance about the social, cultural and legal conditions in your host country.
We highly recommend: If you are going abroad, to officially register your stay abroad for safety reasons (e.g. in case of an emergency)! As an Austrian citizen, you can register via the "Auslandsservice-App" of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (www.bmeia.gv.at). In case you hold another citizenship than the Austrian, please contact and register at the embassy or consulate of your
home country.

ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Programs (BIP)
An innovation in the Erasmus+ program generation 2021-2027 are the Blended Intensive Programs (BIP). BIPs shall promote the use of innovative learning and teaching methods and the possibilities of online cooperation are to
be used. A BIP involves the physical- and virtual activity (before and/or after the physical part) of a group of learners.
What can be funded?
- The development of short, intensive and joint curricula and activities aims to offer students and teachers the opportunity to participate in a short physical group mobility (5-30 days) combined with a compulsory virtual phase at an Erasmus+ partner university.
- A BIP must be developed and implemented by at least 3 higher education institutions, from at least 3 different Erasmus+ program countries.
For a BIP to take place, a minimum of 15 travelling persons (students and/or teachers) must participate (e.g.: 5 participants in each of 3 universities).
- If students (incl. doctoral candidates) or lecturers & staff of the Angewandte wish to participate in an Erasmus+ BIP, an
Inter Institutional Agreement between the Angewandte and the host institution must be in place.
Funding is available for the physical mobility phase (5-30 days) abroad.
- The physical mobility can take place at the hosting institution or at another location in the host country. The duration of the virtual mobility
phase is not predefined and can vary as needed.
- Recognition of the achievements in a BIP-study mobility is obligatory for the Erasmus+ funding. This is also the reason why only students - but no recent graduates - are able to participate in a BIP. Funded students must achieve at least 3 ECTS (which also contribute to the completion of their studies) and they must get the 3 ECTS recognized for their studies at their home university.
- Limitation to one-time-participation/per person/per study cycle in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate in a BIP-short-term mobility.
- Mobile Erasmus+ BIP-participants (students & staff) receive their mobility funding from their sending/home university for the physical mobility phase (5-30 days). Application for funding directly in the International Office of the Angewandte (international.office@uni-ak.ac.at).
- Students & Staff can apply for mobility funding for the physical activity of he BIP.
ERASMUS+ funding for BIP-mobilities
- Mobility duration: 5-30 days
- Mobility grant: depending on budget availability – currently, a minimum duration of 5 days is funded. Any mobility duration exceeding this can be used as “non-funded days.”
- Students with fewer opportunities – i.e. students who are going on mobility with children or students with disabilities or health problems (if this results
in increased financial expenses during their stay abroad compared to their stay in the sending country) – will receive the
following top-up for Erasmus+ BIP mobilities in addition to the above-mentioned mobility grant:
- Day 1-14: one-time lump sum of EUR 100
- Day 15-30: one-time lump sum of EUR 150
- Erasmus+ travel allowance (NEW!): Calculation of the allowance based on the distance (one-way distance from the home university to the host university) according to the distance calculator of the European Commission. Depending on whether a more sustainable means of transport (bus, train, bicycle, carpool) is used or not, the travel allowance is from EUR 28 or EUR 56 for distances of 10-99 km. For journeys under 500 km, it is recommended to use a low-emission means of transport.

Overview of institutions: Institutions | Inclusive mobilityOeAD website: https://erasmusplus.at/de/hochschulbildung/mobilitaet/inklusion* Which costs for example cannot be covered?
- Costs borne by (health) insurance companies. For example: medications, medical treatments, etc.
- Therapy costs: Unless there is proof that the costs in the host country are higher than in the sending country and that the
(health) insurance and the deductible to be paid in the sending country do not cover the costs abroad. The difference can then be taken over by the Inclusion Support.
- Costs that Erasmus+ participants regularly incur in the country of the sending institution, even without mobility. For example: deductible etc.
- Costs covered by other entities.
- Travel costs for mobile Erasmus+ participants (from Call 2024). These are covered by the regular Erasmus+ mobility grant. If there are higher travel costs that are directly related to the disability or chronic illness, funding for the additional
costs is possible (compared to the travel costs of Erasmus+ participants without a disability or without a chronic illness).
There is no additional funding for students (excluding graduates) with economic obstacles in the Erasmus+ program, which is why students (recipients of "Studienbeihilfe" only in exceptional cases) can apply for
the university's internal “Equality for Mobility” scholarship twice a year. In any case, "Studienbeihilfe"-recipients can apply to their study grant authority for foreign grants (excluding internships).
Students on international mobility (study mobility)
Students with care responsibilities (during their stay abroad), physical, mental or health impairments and/or economic obstacles,
who go on mobility within the INTERNATIONAL (long-term mobility) program can apply for additional funding within the “Equality for Mobility” scholarship twice a year in addition to the foreign scholarship or BMBWF-foreign scholarship. Recipients of "Studienbeihilfe" can apply
for the foreign or BMBWF scholarship, but are asked to apply to their "Studienbeihilfebehörde" for a foreign grant instead of the “Equality for Mobility” scholarship.
