Philosophy

The International Office of the Angewandte sees itself as a gateway to the world for students, teachers and staff. Networking is of highly importance in the artistic field. This starts with our students and runs through all stages of development in their artistic career. That is why we as team support all networking activities worldwide and contribute a little to "world peace", as we say.

The head of the International Office, Astrid Anna Behrens, was asekd to write an article on this philosophy and its background in the specialist journal of the CUMULUS Association:
Call us the quiet Peace-Makers

Angewandte Festival 2025: Looking for our Partner Universities

We made full use of our new sound absorbers at this year's Angewandte Festival. Each absorber features an abstract map of our partner universities in Europe and around the world on a white canvas. Participants had to choose a partner institution using a laser pointer and guess the corresponding country.

Lena Wicke-Aengenheyster, our Digital and Digital Officer, points to our world map of partner universities with a laser pointer.     Table with goodies from our partner institutions from all over the world.

In return, they received a raffle ticket, giving them the chance to win a bag from one of our partner universities. There was also a wide range of materials (information brochures, pens, measuring tapes and keyrings) available to take away from our goodie table. We are always delighted to receive visitors on these days, whether they are interested in various exchange opportunities or whether they are representatives of partner universities who want to take a look at Angewandte. The Angewandte Festival provides a great opportunity to make new contacts, view students‘ final projects – and most of all, celebrate the end of a successful academic year.

Tour Through the Viennese Vineyards with Our Incoming Cohort

Signpost for the city hiking trail 5

What could be nicer than walking through Vienna's vineyards on a warm summer afternoon? Not much, which is why we packed our incoming cohort from the 2024 summer semester into the tram and took them to the end of Vienna, to Stammersdorf in the 21st district. This is where the city hiking trail 5 begins, which leads through countless vineyards and winds its way around the Bisamberg. After just a few minutes' walk we had a magnificent view of the city. Inspired by this, we walked for an hour and a half before taking a break under a huge lime tree. Strengthened by Punsckkrapfen, trail mix and cookies, we headed back to the tram station. Inspired by this great hike, we have resolved to explore the other city hiking trails in the coming years. Who knows where the next hike with the incoming students will take us in the winter semester of 2025: Sophienalpe, Kahlenberg or the Prater? No matter where, we're already looking forward to it!

Students and Scholars of the Angewandte at the Blended Intensive Program "Bodies of Water" in Catania/ Sicily

Everywhere, we are surrounded by infrastructure that supplies water to both public and private spaces. Much of it was designed to be hidden from view. How can we make this infrastructure more visible, particularly from a design perspective, to draw attention to the threat of water scarcity due to climate change? What aesthetic and educational role does the design of water infrastructure play? What ecological, cultural, and architectural issues are associated with the design of our waterways? Participants in the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program (BIP), "Bodies of Water," addressed these and similar questions. In Catania, Sicily, students and researchers from our partner university, Angewandte, as well as the ABADIR Academy and the Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny de Castelló, came together under the direction of Giulia Colletti to discuss these topics. Catania is a hotspot in this regard. The town is located in a Mediterranean region where climate change is particularly noticeable. For instance, winter rainfall has decreased by 40% in recent years. How to manage the available water is of central importance to Catania's population, and despite our geographical differences, it is a topic from which we can learn important practical and theoretical lessons.

From January to February of 2025, five digital meetings were held in which participating students and researchers had the opportunity to get to know each other and receive theoretical input. These meetings were designed to ensure that the participants would have a productive week together in March. While in Catania, the students and scholars engaged in extensive discussions about post-natural studies, water-based art techniques, knowledge from the Global South, contemporary dance, and hydrofeminism. They also went on excursions to cultural sites, such as the Palazzo Valle, to gain a historical perspective on the topic of water supply, as well as to an underground river. Participants agreed that these experiences would inspire them to create artistic projects and final theses that will make the gathered knowledge accessible to a wider public.

Third Man Tour with our Incoming Cohort

As part of our series of events for incoming exchange students, we participated in a Third Man tour early during the summer semester. This cult film, directed by Carol Reed and starring Orson Welles as Harry Lime, was filmed in Vienna in 1949 and remains very popular today. Led by Christopher Timmermann from Vienna Walks, the tour started at the Stadtpark, where we had a view of the Vienna Canal, which is featured prominently in the film. Then, we walked through the city center on different routes and learned more about the film, its production, and Vienna in the post-war period. Around 20 students took part in the detailed and beautifully designed tour, which lasted around two hours. Afterwards, we returned to the Angewandte, where we enjoyed a private screening of the film with popcorn and drinks. The students concluded that the film's popularity is well deserved — it's a real classic from which you can learn a lot about Viennese history.

Welcome Day Summer Term 2025

As every semester, we used the time before the actual start of courses to welcome our fantastic new cohort of 51 incoming students to Vienna. Our colleague Lena Wicke-Aengenheyster set the mood by playing a "Waidmannsheil" (a traditional hunting call) on her horn. After this musical introduction to Austria and a few words of welcome by Astrid Anna Behrens, Head of the International Office, the students received goodie bags and a copy of their best friend during their stay in Vienna, our Exchange Guide.

Lena Wicke-Aengenheyster playing the horn.    Welcome speech by Astrid Anna Behrens

After a presentation and a quiz about Vienna, we enjoyed a delicious lunch, where students shared dishes from their home countries. The Welcome Day concluded with a tour of different university buildings: One of our regular students offered a short walking tour, which included the Studio Digital Photography, the Workshop for Wood Technology, and of course, most important for students, the canteen.

We wish our students a good start to the semester and look forward to hearing about their fascinating projects here in Vienna!

DIM THE NOIZZZZE

Akustikelemente für das International Office

The development of our Dimm the Noizzzze project began with a problem - or rather, an opportunity. It was about optimizing the acoustics in the International Office. Our vision was to combine acoustic elements with the content and philosophy of the International Office. The designs submitted dealt in various ways with themes such as travel, topographies and also our location - one of the best-known Art Nouveau buildings in the country.

Detail of the relief with shadowSketch of the acoustic element

In the end, we were won over by the proposal from Mia Tešić and Anna Sudy.
The two students, who are spending the 2025 summer semester abroad at the Dutch Design Academy Eindhoven and studying Industrial Design at the Angewandte, took the Angewandte's international partner universities as their starting point and presented us with their relief-like idea.

Acoustic element (world map) hung

The result is two large wall objects with tensile structures, each measuring 160 x 180 cm, which depict a European map with its destinations on the one hand and a world map with global destinations on the other by means of punctual elevations. We would like to take this opportunity to thank acoustician Andreas Horvath from NextAcoustic for his great expertise and support, Marcus Bruckmann (Industrial Design) for his valuable assistance and last but not least the wonderful colleagues in the Angewandte wood-workshop for their time and advice in realizing this project. We are overjoyed with the result and feel that the room quality has now improved significantly.

ERASMUS DAYS 2024

Our International Office impresses with prices, information and good humor

Drei Personen halten einen Erasmus+ Rahmen und lächeln

Happiness is not a destination, but a journey. With luck and a wheel of fortune, our students, staff and our rector as well as visitors won nice prizes at the main entrance to the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In addition, we bribed with happiness and a lot of information about mobility options.

Sonic Imprints

Jiun You Ou was on Artist-in-Residence with an Angewandte-scholarship

The International Office offers a broad portfolio of support options. In addition to the Erasmus+ program, students can also apply for scholarships within the university. The Foreign Exchange Grant is open to all students who are going abroad and/or are undertaking special or short projects and research stays abroad that cannot be covered by Erasmus+. We also offer the Equality for Mobility-scholarship for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses, with care responsibilities and with economic barriers.

Jiun You Ou is studying Applied Art & Science and accepted an invitation to Switzerland to realize a sculptural-acoustic project as an artist-in-residence. The International Office was able to support her with our scholarship abroad.

Jiun You Ou in the studio at the Open Studio with visitors Opening: Sonic imprint on the floor and descriptions and photos on the wall

Let Jiun You Ou have her say:
At Centro Internazionale di Scultura I revisited the relationship between the natural patterns of stone and sculptural form, oscillating between the material spectrum of lightness (sound) and heaviness (stone). The experience sparked further questions, such as how to execute precisely outdoors, how to refine the interplay between sound and sculpture, and how to navigate the dimensional space between two and three-dimensional forms.

What excites me most is the potential of the devices themselves (as sculptures), (altered) spectrograms, and stone slabs. These disassembled and layered elements imply the formation of a time domain 'atlas'. Furthermore, they may also be related to a macro-view regarding me (as an Asian) living and moving like a nomad in Europe - the visit is transient; the gaze is anyway ephemeral.

Styrian autumn in Graz

A trip with our incoming students of winter term 2024

In addition to our Welcome Day, we kicked off the 2024/25 winter semester with an excursion for our new incoming students to Graz for steirischer herbst ʼ24. Once we arrived in Graz, we took a short walk to the “Friendly Alien”, the Kunsthaus Graz, a controversial piece of architecture by Peter Cook and Colin Fournier that has become an integral part of Graz. Just as little as the Mur island by Vito Acconci, a performance and conceptual artist who became famous in the 1970s.

Group of students with the Erasmus+ flag Mur river during a sunny day in Graz

Our first exhibition was that of Austrian filmmaker Josef Dabernig at Grazer Kunstverein, which gave our incoming students their first taste of Austrian film and culture. In addition to a retrospective, we were also able to see the new work “Lacrimosa”, which focused on death, mourning and elegy. Afterwards, we visited Camera Austria, housed in the Kunsthaus Graz, and learned a lot about their work and the current exhibition. On the way there, we were able to view the remains of a performative installation by Yoshinori Niwa, which focused on a fictitious election poster and was washed beyond recognition every day until the Austrian National Council elections on 26.10.2024.

Group of students watching a film by Joseph Dabernig at Grazer Kunstverein

The highlight of the day, however, was the centerpiece of steirischer herbst ʼ24, namely “the exhibition Horror Patriae, which was on display in today's Universalmuseum Joanneum or ‘Neue Galerie Graz’. The title is a mixture of love for the fatherland “amor patriae” and the horror of emptiness “horror vacui” (Standard, 25.06.2024). The exhibition presents itself as an alternative museum that focuses on “a reflection on democracy, dominant culture, a sense of homeland, identity and discourse, programmed of course also on the occasion of the super election year 2024” (Kleine Zeitung, 25.06.2024). This group exhibition questions with an interesting lightness, puts contrary positions up for discussion and creates balancing acts that make this exhibition absolutely worth seeing. The whole thing was topped off by a guided tour by one of the curators, including a follow-up discussion.

On the way back, we were able to treat ourselves to a quickly bought dinner after we actually ran out of time towards the end.

Our Digital and Financial Manager Lena Wicke-Aengenheyster is combining her summer vacation with a visit to the Université de Bretagne Occidentale in Brest, where she is job shadowing on the subject of mobility database management. In Vienna, she started her overnight train journey with light luggage on her brand new folding bike partly supported by the City of Vienna. Of course, the branded Erasmus+ saddle cover was a must. After a short tour in Paris and along the Seine, Lena, a sailor herself, was allowed to board a boat in Brest.

ANGEWANDTE FESTIVAL 2024

PERFORMANCE & APÉRO

At the Angewandte Festival 2024, the International Office focused on a whole day. In the morning, the International Office, the experts with hearts, welcomed over twenty international guests from our partner universities. In addition to a guided tour by our festival director Lena Kohlmayr, especially for our guests, we were able to give an insight into what we stand for, our projects and an overview of our university. The exchange between each other was also very fruitful and is definitely worth repeating given the great interest in exchange and job shadowing.

Group photo of our international partner, Angewandte Festival 2024

Our evening program was accompanied by our "bureaucratic fortune teller" Pascale Speck, an incoming student of the Zurich University of the Arts, during an aperitif. While the interested parties piled up, Pascale found clear future prospects for our team and everyone who wanted to experience a bit of a performative future.

Fortune teller Pascale Speck in one of her sessions Tote bags with two kissing faces and the lettering Experts with Hearts

Another highlight was our "Upcycling Tote Bags" project. The background to this idea came from the collection of tote bags from all over the world and from countless partner institutions. We decided to launch an open call among our incoming and former outgoing students, and Sven Kammerer, an incoming student from the Libera Universita di Bolzano, ultimately convinced us with his design of two kissing heads for our office slogan "Experts with Hearts". The bags, which were very well received, were won in a raffle during our evening reception.

Impression of the evening event

All in all, we are satisfied - and look forward to welcoming many guests again in the fall for Open Day 2024.

A visit to the parliament on the Vienna Ring

After several years of renovation, the Austrian Parliament on Wiener Ring opened its doors again to both day-to-day politics and visitors in 2023.

As a start to the summer semester 2024, the International Office and interested incoming students paid a visit to this venerable institution on Women's Day. As soon as we were in the building we shuffled us from security gate to security gate. Our tour guide, let's call him Martin, attached great importance to the stately rooms, various plenary halls and also to the contemporary art in the house. Particularly memorable were Eva Schlegel's mirror work, in which one could take different angles of a stairwell, and Heimo Zobernig's work, almost monochrome paintings, which changed color depending on the light.

Did you know that during the imperial era the Austrian parliament was the first multilingual (eight-language) parliament in the world? Exactly, neither do we. We also learned that the snake door handles stand for wisdom, that a  long time ago inkwells sometimes flew through the air and that the newly renovated rooms are of course equipped with all kinds of technical equipment. Special emphasis was also placed on accessibility during the renovation!

The visit was impressive and will definitely be repeated!

JOSHIBI Artist in Residency in Tokyo

A graduate in a new residency program of one of our partner institutions

Applications for JOSHIBI AIR 2024 open until April 24th, 2024

The Joshibi University of Art and Design, a purely women's university, is one of over 120 partner institutions of the University of Applied Arts Vienna and was founded in 1900 as an art education school with principles such as "Strengthening the independence of women through the arts", "Increasing social status of women” and “To produce women teachers in the arts.”

The artists in conversation with the students and the Austrian Cultural Forum Tokyo

We are proud that one of our graduates, Lisa Großkopf, was one of the first artists among all Joshibi's partner institutions to take part in the new JOSHIBI AIR residency program in 2023. The program offers current students the opportunity to promote career development and support networking through exchanges with international artists.

Installed video work ofLisa Grosskopf

During her Artist Residency in Japan, Lisa Großkopf explored gender-specific Japanese photography rituals. Her artistic research focused on Omiai photography, a traditional Japanese custom where photos are used for matchmaking. Großkopf investigated to what extent these visual resumes are imbued with societal expectations and traditional gender roles. She visited a professional photo studio in an upscale district of Tokyo and had Omiai photos taken of herself, complete with the usual hairstyling and makeup, a charming yet slightly awkward outfit, and a typical backdrop resembling a staged living room.

Lisa Großkopf in the manner of Omiai photography

It was a valuable experience for me to see firsthand the production process of artists who are active overseas and hear directly from them about their intentions in creating their works. I had the opportunity to talk casually with artists working in
fields different from the professors who usually teach at Joshibi. I was able to gain new insights into aspects of society and customs that I take for granted in Japan by seeing them from the perspective of overseas artists. In the future, I would like to work outside of Japan. Regarding the artists of JOSHIBI AIR as role models, I hope to create artworks that combine what I experience overseas with my own sensibilities.

COOK BOOK

An annual project for the Sculpture and Space class

Photo of the cookbook and names of the participants

"Since the Sculpture and Space Department was founded, lunch together has been an important part of the weekly class meetings. The cooking teams are faced with similar considerations to those when developing an artistic work: which ingredients are combined, how they have to be processed, what form they take and who is my food aimed at? The care that comes with cooking for others, sharing food, and table conversations are essential to our relationships."

Doris while flicking through the cookbook Photo of a raspberry as a stud earing and a photo collage of parsley

The so-called "Cookbook" with an edition of 300 is more of a work of art than a cookbook. It contains spontaneous photo collages, objects, drawings, snippets of conversations and lots of recipes for groups of 30 people. We are pleased that many former outgoing and incoming students and thus also many cultural influences contributed to the recipe creation and cooking and that the “Cookbook” project culminated at our Angewandte Festival 2023.

Regenerative Design

An insight of a Zhe Sun, a PhD-exchange student from Tongji University Shanghai

Zhe Sun in discussion with other students Poster of the exhibition Imagine Coral Reef

I am grateful to be able to continue my doctorate at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, my research topic is about exploring an alternative mode of design collaboration. This topic has puzzled me for a long time: what is alternative collaboration against for? What is the goal or ideal state that this design collaboration could potentially achieve? Fortunately, my supervisor Harald Gründl offered me a concrete ground to root my research in. Last semester, I worked closely with the exhibition Imagine Coral Reef: Regenerative Design, I also helped to facilitate the workshop in Sarajevo, exploring the possible design strategies and ways of collaborating with students and colleagues.

Poster about regnerative Design

In the lecture series Design Revolution, we had the opportunities to share our progress in regenerative design research, and explore the potential of the X curve, a tool for design transition. All these practices and discussions helped me to deepen my thoughts on my own research topic. In the coming new year at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, I would like to further develop the reflexive insights, and formulate academic results.

Meet & Greet 2024

Outgoing applicants meet in incoming students and former outgoing students

We were very happy that we were able to reintroduce our Meet & Greet format after the pandemic. The basic idea is to bring together those interested in going out with incoming students and returning outgoing students. Over coffee, hot lemonade and delicious cake, the students reported on universities in Beijing, Tokyo, Flensburg, Jerusalem and a few more internship destinations.

For more than two hours there was a lively exchange, questions, partner lists were looked through and ideas were concretized. With almost 50 participants, our expectations were so exceeded that we were hardly able to bring in more tables and chairs in time. We are pleased that the students accepted this format so enthusiastically - and will therefore offer it regularly again in the future.

ERASMUS DAYS 2023

Logo whitch says #Erasmus Days

This year we celebrated the Erasmus+ Days with a scavenger hunt in the Inner City of Vienna. Our exchange students as well as first-year's-students (which are hopefully future outgoing students) learnt historical facts about the city center while bonding with other students and having fun.

INTERNATIONAL OFFICE
A soft Intervention

With works of Lola Berger, Paola Cenati, Niklas Fiedler, Alina Izmailova, Sophie Nadler, Ao Nagasaki, Arina Nekliudova, Jiun-You Ou, Lola Pfeifer, Signe Wiman Westberg, Rikki Winde, Agnieszka Zagraba

Plakat der Ausstellung

At this year's Angewandte Festival 2023, the International Office opened its doors and showed the exhibition “International Office”. The decision was made in favor of a sensitive, site-specific intervention, which quietly but firmly registered itself in the International Office of the University of Applied Arts Vienna during the four days of the festival.

About everyday noises and blowing leaves by Signe Westberg, whose work “Mind Blossom” populated a workplace and responded with quiet humor to the difference between administrative work on a computer and the precise perception of the outside space. A seemingly broken vase resting on a crushed file folder laid at the foot of another desk. Alina Izmailova's “I know your works: You are neither cold nor hot” showed brokenness as a sign of pain that one is trying to deal with.

Work by Signe Westberg - two screens showing trees Work by Alina Izmailova / A broken clay vase sitting on a folder on the floor

To be held and hold, but always with a wink, that's how Rikki Winde's Tonhand (Draw) came along and placed itself comfortably in one of the windows of the old Otto Wagner’s former Postsparkasse. Sophie Nadler had already spent some time in the International Office beforehand as observer. In her performance “Room 010” she discussed regulated and regulatory processes while acquiring typical work materials such as folders, copy paper, hole punches and printers.

Jiun-You Ou’s half-graphic, half-painterly “dish hanger” named “DA QIAN HAO JING III” hung unpretentiously above a radiator as if it had been hung out to dry. Paola Cenati was represented with two works: in “To the sea” you seemed to be able to hear the sound of the sea in the plastic bag, while in “Through your eyes” Cenati referred to collecting shelves in which she placed fragile eggshells seemingly floating freely.

Arina Nekliudova's performance consisted of an oversized garbage bag that rolled through the office like a black cloud of dust, sometimes quietly, sometimes like a hurricane, and got lost in the depths of the building. Dominik Staszak showed a device that can be used to print standard invoices on thermal paper. In the four days, however, no invoices were created, but rather AI-generated poems in Polish.

In addition to a boozy champagne breakfast, the International Office also showed positions by Ao Nicole Nagasaki in the next room, who almost dreamily captures the feeling of being a girl, photos from the series “Mädchen” that were taken in the Ernst Fuchs Villa in Vienna's 14th district. In contrast to this was Lola Pfeifer, whose large-format wood print “Background” deals with traditional Christian figures and the concept of MA (Japanese: emptiness).

Speaking of tradition, we think we could introduce this tradition of making exhibitions.

A TRIP TO KREMS AN DER DONAU

- in cooperation withe Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

March 23, 2023, 8:40 am, Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, Vienna.

Students on the train to Krems an der Donau

One month after the Welcome-Day in February we meet again: the ERASMUS+ and international students of the summer semester 2023 of the Angewandte and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. We travel to sunny Krems next to the Danube and visit the Kunsthalle Krems and the Karikaturmuseum.

Exterior view of the Kunsthalle Krems with students in the backgroundExterior view of the Kraikaturmuseum Krems with students in the background. In the foreground a bronze sculpture by Erich Sokol of a fat, seated woman.

The exhibition "The New African Portraiture. Shariat Collections" at Kunsthalle Krems shows works by 25 young artists from Ghana, France, USA and other countries. From oil, material to textile art - there is a great variety to be seen. Special is the art of Tesfaye Urgessa. He was born in Ethiopia in 1983 and now lives in Germany. Urgessa constructs psychological pictorial spaces that focus on the vulnerability of human beings. In his painting "No Country for Young Men" he alludes to current migration movements - people struggling for bare survival. The figures nevertheless radiate strength and form a unity. The artist Afia Prempeh, on the other hand, shows very powerfully strong female figures in their domestic or work environment in the exhibition.

The oil painting by Tesfaye Urgessa shows overlaid, male-read, black nude figures crowded close together.Afia Prempeh's oil painting shows a black seamstress in a tailor's shop. She looks directly at the audience.

Cobblestones, cream-colored house walls and fir-green shutters. We eat our lunch at the Austrian restaurant, the Salzstadl. Spring can be felt and the sun leads us to the first ice cream of the year.

Downtown in Krems on a sunny day

Then we visit the exhibition „The Immortal Austrian“. It represents many different caricaturists. The main protagonist is Erich Sokol, who would have turned 90 in March2023. Born in Vienna, he was one of Austria's best-known caricaturists and designed, among other things, the logo of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and illustrated for the Kronen-Zeitung. He was very successful internationally and worked as an art director in Chicago. Besides Erich Sokol, the Austrian Petar Pismestrović stood out with his caricatures of Michael Haneke and other well-known personalities. Three-by-three picture frames dominate the khaki green wall. The impressive and expressive caricatures release enthusiasm. Caricatures of female artists (of the younger generation) were also on display, such as Stephanie Sargnargel and Toxische Pommes.

Students in conversation with the guide in the exhibition Nine caricatures by Petar Pismestrović showing people in public life in Austria such as Elfriede Jelinek or Michael Haneke

On the way back, fatigue fills the stuffy air of the train compartment. Outside, field after field and flowering trees line up with tiny houses. At 5:24 p.m. we say goodbye at Julius Tandler Square.

PAPER ON TOUR - AWARD CEREMONY & EXHIBITION

Photo: Verena Gotthardt

Within the Erasmus Days 2022 we celebrated our "Paper on Tour" - award ceremony & exhibition. Together with the OeAD GmbH - Agency for Education and Internationalization we were able to offer nice cash prizes!

Eventually the Carinthian slovenian Mira Urbajs made the first prize with her work "Knitting". She has just returned from our partner university in Valencia and told us that the meditating "knitting" work helped her to reexperience and digest her one year's experiences abroad. Furthermore it shows the interwoveness of new relationships.

Photo: Verena Gotthardt

The second prize went to Anni Domino alias Dominik Pfeiffer & Anna Strüber's "Über das Schreiben von Briefen". As a couple they celebrate writing postcards to each other, so it was just very close to scoop new paper and make postcards out of it which is also a way to be in touch with your loved ones during your stay abroad.

Photo: Verena Gotthardt

The third prize went Marcus Wagner's video work "Let's Go!" which captured the easy way of living abroad. It also involves narratives of former artists' desires of traveling (e.g. painters traveling to Italy in the romantic era).

Deadline: 15 September 2022

Have you already met that special person during your Erasmus+ mobility with whom you have a friendship beyond the end of the project? Then tell us about it and share your personal wealth of experience with us! On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Erasmus+ in Austria and 35 years of Erasmus+ in Europe, OeAD invites you to the #ErasmusPlusFreundship Challenge. Post a photo or video with your #ErasmusPlusFreundschaft on Facebook or Instagram and tell us: where did you meet? What characterizes your friendship? How do you keep in touch?

The five best entries will each win a travel package worth EUR 500.

HOW TO:
  • Post a video or photo of you and your Erasmus+ acquaintance publicly on Instagram or Facebook (if you post the entry privately, it will not appear on the social wall and unfortunately cannot be considered for the competition).
  • If you post the entry on Facebook, link to our Erasmus+ Bildung.
  • Tell your friendship story in the video or in the text below the picture: Where did you meet? Do you still keep in touch today? Or maybe you are looking for that person who made your stay so special? What are the benefits of long distance friendship? And what are you struggling with?
  • Use the hashtag #ErasmusPlusFreundschaft to have the post appear on our social wall
  • Fill out the form - this is the only way to enter the competition.
All information, conditions of participation and more can be found at erasmusplus.at/erasmusplusfriendship

Please support us in making as many friendship stories public as possible and also inform your environment about the #ErasmusPlusFreundship Challenge! Sharing is caring ;-)

We are looking forward to your friendship story!

Due date: 03. October 2022

Cooperation project between the University of Applied Arts Vienna & the OeAD GmbH - Agency for Education and Internationalization.

We celebrate 35 years of Erasmus+!

Erasmus+ is one of the most successful projects of the European Union, its greatest peace project. Not only a reason to celebrate, but also a reason to look at Erasmus+ and mobility in its entirety. For this purpose we invite all regular students of the University of Applied Arts Vienna (incl. regular exchange students of the Angewandte) to a creative competition:
  • 1st prize (EUR 1.000,-)
  • 2nd prize (EUR 600,-)
  • 3rd prize (EUR 300,-)
SUBMISSION
There are few limits to the realization of an artistic work (e.g. collage, sculpture, poetry, video, performance, ...). The only requirement is that old printed materials of the OeAD - Agency for Education and Internationalization must be used in some way for this purpose, which can be viewed and collected from the International Office from 19. July 2022. The collection of the materials is possible on Tuesdays 14-16h and Wednesdays 13-15h in the PSK, International Office, Rosenbursenstrasse 3, 1010 Vienna, upper ground level, room: 010 without appointment. In order to ensure fairness, the International Office reserves the right to decide how many printed materials can be distributed in each case. In general, however, the "first come, first served" principle applies.

Applications are made by registering using the online form (https://form.jotform.com/221874936226362)
with details of your work. After registration, an automated email with an upload link will be sent to you. Via this link the documentation of your work has to be uploaded. Only complete applications will be accepted.

SELECTION
Based on this documentation, ten works will be invited to the award ceremony and exhibition, which will be on display during the worldwide #ErasmusDays from 13./14. October 2022 for all university members and the general public at the University of Applied Arts Vienna Lichthof A (grey) at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz 2, 1010 Vienna). The award ceremony of the three winning projects will take place ibid on 13. October 2022.
In addition, all or a selection of the submitted works will be shown at a slideshow during the 35 year Erasmus+ -festival of the OeAD on 11. October 2022 at Palais Wertheim in Vienna.
