APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INCOMING EXCHANGE STUDENTS


The application window for the winter semester 2025/26 has closed on April 15, 2025.
The next application window for the summer term 2026 will open in summer and close on October 15, 2025.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Students from Partner Institutions and FREEMOVERS from UKRAINE ONLY! have the possibility to apply for participation for one semester. At the moment we do not take in CEEPUS grant students. Also see application specialties & language requirements down below.

APPLICATION DEADLINES & SEMESTER DATES

  • Winter term (1 October - 31 January): 15. April
  • Summer term (1 March - 30 June): 15. October
ATTENTION: Students are accepted for ONE semester only! An extension cannot be guaranteed !!!

NOMINATION & APPLICATION


Step 1: Nomination

If you have been selected for participation in an exchange program, your home institution has to nominate you officially via online form by your International coordinator. The International Office receives the link by writing us!

Step 2: Application

You have to apply through our online form Move On
and the following application documents, consisting of:

  1. CURRICULUM VITAE (incl. contact information)
  2. MOTIVATION LETTER
  3. PORTFOLIO (max. 10MB)

Only a complete application can be accepted, documents must be handed in either in English or German! For English taught studies, the application must be handed in English only!

The selection is based on the portfolio and the number of disposable placesThe announcement can take 6-10 weeks. The applicants and coordinators will be informed immediately. The partnership between home- and guest university is no warranty for admission.

APPLICATION SPECIALITIES / LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Note on language level: Most courses are held in German, some in English. Basic knowledge of the German language is generally recommended, English - level B2. Our English-language study programs are of course only held in English.

  • Art and cultural studies: Please submit two semester papers in German or English as work samples. The study program itself is in German (min. B2).
  • Communication Design: German knowledge in level B1-B2 is expected.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Strategies: Please submit a portfolio with artistic works or at least two written papers in English or German.
  • Expanded Museum Studies: The study program itself is in German (min. B2).
  • Stage Design: German knowledge in level B2 is expected.
  • Transmedia Arts: During the application process, there will be a Zoom meeting in addition to the portfolio.
  • Transformation Studies. Art X Science: Please submit a portfolio with artistic works or written papers, in English.

The University of Applied Arts Vienna only takes interns

in our Institute of Conservation and Restoration.

The internships can be funded by the Erasmus+ programme of Erasmus eligible universities. There is no additional remuneration to be expected from the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INCOMING DOCTORAL STUDENTS ON EXCHANGE


Step 1:

We will review whether the PhD project fits into the academic framework of the University of Applied Arts Vienna. This includes a consideration of the stated motivation and the applicant’s language skills as well as of the availability of study places and possible guest-supervisors. The selection process does not include an assessment of the artistic-scientific merit of your work. The final decision on applications lies with the coordinators for doctoral projects at Support Art and Research.

There is no specific deadline for applying to our PhD-exchange, but we expect you to apply at least three months before the beginning of the next semester (winter semester: October - January; summer semester: March - June). Please apply via email to: sdkf@uni-ak.ac.at.
 

Required Documents:

  • Exposé of the respective PhD-project (1-3 pages)
  • Letter of Motivation incl. suggestions of one or more guest-doctoral-supervisor(s) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna
  • Information concerning the PhD-process: date of enrollment for the doctoral programme, projected end of the doctoral project, name(s) of the supervisor(s) at your home institution
  • Curriculum Vitae (incl. publications)

After you have received a confirmation by the Support Art and Research, please get in touch with the International Office: international.office@uni-ak.ac.at.
