Die Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien hat eine Digitalisierungsstrategie verabschiedet. Entwickelt wurde sie vom Rektorat und vom Digitalforum für fünf strategische Handlungsfelder: digitale Lehre, Forschungsdaten und digitale Forschung, künstliche Intelligenz in Kunst und Forschung, digitale Grundbildung sowie Open Source und Softwareentwicklung. Auf Grundlage der Strategie werden Leitlinien, Policies und weitere Regelwerke kontinuierlich weiterentwickelt und bei Bedarf angepasst.

As part of this year’s Vienna Art Week, the University of Applied Arts Vienna is presenting an exhibition programme comprising two events at its location on Paulusplatz in the 3rd district: Students from the departments of Site Specific Art and Sculpture and Space have been working there together with various groups of people from the ‘lost open space’ of St. Marx to explore the theme of temporary uses and the issues surrounding them – focusing on the lost spaces in this city, the search for new ones, and what needs to change now.

Who’s actually allowed to use which restroom? As part of the idea competition Kunst kommt von Klo or where art takes a seat, the University of Applied Arts was seeking new pictograms for its restrooms. Voting for your favourite design is now open. 

The University of Applied Arts Vienna is inviting its members to submit project proposals in response to the first call for proposals of the programme for the development of Perspectives for Opportunities through Research of Transdisciplinarity (PORT).

The University of Applied Arts Vienna is delighted to greet the first-year students of the 2026/2027 academic year.

Three alumni of the University of Applied Arts were honoured with an Outstanding Artist Award 2026 from the BMWKMS: Johanna Pichlbauer, a graduate in Industrial Design, in the Design category; and the duo Tanja Bradaric and Taro Ohmae, both graduates of the Fashion programme, with SAGAN vienna for “experimental fashion design”.

This year’s Gerhard and Birgit Gmoser Prize for Contemporary Art, organized by the Vienna Secession goes to Kia Sciarrone. The jurors Ramesch Daha, Karine Fauchard, Philipp Fleischmann, Barbara Kapusta and Eva Schlegel explained their decision as follows: “Kia Sciarrone impressed us with his political, critical and poetic artistic practice, which stood out amongst the large number of submissions of the highest artistic quality. His works explore the complexity of history, sexuality and social heritage – an important perspective within the contemporary art scene.”

Gleich vier Angehörige des Instituts für Sprachkunst sind aktuell in literarischen Wettbewerben vertreten: Boban Ristić (Student, Bachelor), Alina Sauernheimer (Alumna, Master) und Lotti Spieler (Alumna, Bachelor) stehen im Finale des Wettbewerbs für junge Literatur Open Mike. Nina Temann (Studentin, Master) ist mit oh augen, eigene oper für den Debütpreis des Österreichischen Buchpreises nominiert.

From 1 December, 2025, to 20 January, 2026, the first stage of the PORT call 2025 for proposals was open; 57 submissions were received. Thirty-three project teams were invited to the second stage. By May 12, 2026, 30 full proposals had been submitted. The PORT Advisory Board 2025 reviewed the projects proposals based on programme-specific criteria.

The following experts were members of the advisory board for the PORT call 2025: Ella Raidel, Fahim Mohammadi, Kai Lehikoinen, Kathrina Dankl and Markus Krajewski. On the basis of an individual peer review by the PORT Advisory Board, the advisory board collectively developed a list of recommendations for the final decision of the Rectorate.
