Andrea Mayr-Stalder is the founder of Turtle Stitch, an innovative
educational initiative that combines programming with textile art. Using the graphical programming language Snap!, users can
create patterns that are embroidered by embroidery machines, combining programming logic and textile production.
The project is open source
and is being used in schools and workshops worldwide to give children and young people a creative approach to computer science
and design. Turtle Stitch promotes interdisciplinary learning by combining technical, artistic and craft aspects and providing
a platform for the exchange of designs and codes.
Turtle Stitch is the second lecture in the series
DIGITAL ART FOR TEXTILE ART EDUCATION, which is organized by the Department of Textiles - Free Applied and Experimental Artistic
Design. The series is dedicated to the question of how open-source technologies and digital tools are transforming textile
production and teaching and opening up new creative possibilities.
